Clamp hold it

Product design

This clamp was one of my projects at the University. The task was to design a clamp that holds two plastic pipes towards each other at an angle of 90°.

This spider-like construction is based on tensile- and compressive forces. By means of these strengths, the pipes are pressed towards the interior cylinder by the exterior wires.

Cellular rubber helps to keep the pipes undamaged. Through drill holes the carbon sticks run through the cylinder of the clamp without touching each other.

Material: Carbon, Aluminium, Cellular rubber, Acrylic glass, Gypsum

In order to show the active forces that act on the clamp, i decided to create an abstract form made of gypsum. This is a way of visualising the tensile forces.
